conditions can often lead to a serious medical
crisis as the dirt and other disease causing organisms can invade the open
wounds; cuts, scraps and scratches, infecting them. The torn tissue become contaminated
creating a dangerous situation, infections, especially necrotizing fasciitis, the
flesh-eating bacteria, which could be life-threatening for people whose immune
system is compromised by chronic illness or years of physical abuse. Therefore,
Dr. Granger felt it necessary to perform the tests to determine if her patient
was at risk of contracting this severe threat to her health.
The
results of the test horrified Francis. It was the results of these tests that
Francis’s life underwent a radical alteration.
The daily anxiety and despair over the loss of her two beautiful
children, that consumed her, and the constant fear of her drunken, lunatic
husband attacking her, was dim, compared to this dreadful diagnosis. A few weeks after submitting her body to
undergo extensive testing and a vigorous examination by Dr. Debbie Granger, to
determine the state of her health, the doctor contacted Francis and asked her to
return to the Clinic, where the physician revealed the shocking results of the
tests. The compassionate doctor struggled as she
tried to find the right words to tell the patient, whom she had become very
fond of, that she had contracted Aids.
Laboratory analysis confirmed the diagnosis. However, when Francis
failed to respond to the awful news in a negative way, by becoming upset, the
doctor questioned whether she was already aware of the positive results or if
she was just in such a state of shock that prevented her from responding. The
answer to her reaction stunned the doctor, whose small round face appeared
disgusted as Francis informed her that forced physical contact with her husband
often put her at risk, and exposure to his deviant behaviour often placed her
in situations that made her battered body vulnerable to the threat of sexual
contamination and bacterial infections. It was when she told Dr. Granger that
she knew exactly how the dreaded disease came to invade her body, that the
physician nearly hit the floor. Francis
tearfully explained how she contracted the fatal illness from George, whose
reckless sexual liaisons were often with high-risk women and men. Therefore, to protect herself she insisted he
start using protection when engaging in intercourse with her, an act she couldn’t
avoid because it was often forced upon her.
However, he had a nasty habit of reusing condoms, a fact she became
frighteningly aware of one night after he flew into a fit of rage and beat her
bloody, because she had forgotten to place a six-pack of beer into the
refrigerator to get cold. After the vicious
pounding, he demanded she have sex with him.
Terrified she watched as he snatched something from off top the dresser
in the corner of the room. While restraining
her struggling body as she resisted his advances, he violently began ripping off
the flowery sundress she was wearing.
Francis could see the unpackaged condom in his right hand, as he held
her down with his left. What frightened her more than the violent sexual attack
was the condition of the rubber object dangling between his fingers. It looked
odd and she noticed what appeared to be a milky liquid substance leaking from
the tip of the slimy looking thing.
She desperately tried to tell him that the condom appeared used and was
defective with something dripping from the tip of the piece of elastic. However, George rejected her claim of a
damaged contraceptive and aggressively pursued sexual gratification, and when
she resisted, refusing to have intercourse with him for fear of contracting a
sexually transmitted disease, he slapped her on the left side of her face with
such force, she thought he had broken her jaw. This was enough to force her to
submit to his disgusting advances. Francis was convinced he transmitted the
disease the night he
